Not everyone wants or needs to use pesticides in order to keep spiders out of their homes. Emtec Pest Control knows that there are tons of natural ways to deter spiders, so we thought we would share some of those with you. Of course, if you find that none of these natural alternatives are working for an invasion of spiders that you’re dealing then, then please, don’t hesitate to give the experts a call at 800-522-4707.
5. Make a spider spray
In a spray bottle, combine white vinegar with water, shake it up, and then spray any areas where spiders are known to congregate around your home. It’s as simple as that! Unfortunately, you have to apply this spray daily for it to work.
4. Get a cat
Many cats are hard-wired to chase and pounce on anything that moves, including spiders. However, you could end up with a cat-like ours that won’t have anything to do with insects or spiders. You also have to be cautious about your pets if you’re dealing with poisonous spiders that could bite and harm them.
3. Use 20 Mule Team Borax
Borax (sodium tetraborate decahydrate) is a powder that is usually used to control cockroaches or ants. It is effective when sprinkled in out-of-the-way places where spiders and insects hide. We prefer to sprinkle it in the cracks between the window and the storm or screen window. It can be washed away when it rains though and it’s more effective at getting rid of the insects that spiders eat than actually killing the spiders themselves.
2. Check your house for entry points
For spiders to be inside your home, they have to find a way in first. Look for any cracks, crevices, or openings where spiders could squeeze through into your home. Then grab your caulking gun and get to work sealing up all those entry points.
1. Keep your house clean
Spiders love clutter and will make a home behind boxes and other things that are just sitting around your house. Dust, sweep and vacuum at least once a week, making sure to actually get in the corners, behind furniture and other items. Remove cobwebs as soon as you see them. Don’t leave food or crumbs about because that invites insects and spiders eat insects.
